Charlie Key grew up in Harrison, a city on the west side of Cincinnati. A computer engineering major at Role-Hulman University, Charlie went directly into consulting at Sogeti LLC upon graduation. After a few years of consulting, he took a permanent position working for a Cincinnati-based digital agency called Hyperquake. It was at Hyperquake that he met his Moudulus co-founder, Brandon Cannaday. In the team’s first project together, they created a company called Paranoid Ferret Productions, where they built web and mobile applications. Their most successful project was “Switch On The Code,” a programming and development tutorial blog that sold in December 2012. Then came the inspiration. “One of our projects through Paranoid Ferret Productions was to build a platform for hosting and scaling web games. When we entered the Brandery program with this iteration of Modulus in mind, we continued to build out technology and realized the platform could help more applications than just games. So, we shifted our focus to all Node.js applications and kept the same name.” The Modulus team has built their core technology and their numbers are increasing daily on their public Beta site. Right now, Modulus is free, but they plan to launch paid plans at the end of February. For Charlie, the high point of building Modulus has been “the ability to see real applications run on the platform and get great, positive feedback from users.”**********
